Food sector & related industries

Safe and sufficient food supply is an essential condition to sustain human life. It is also a sector that generates jobs, sustains livelihood for families, and generates value added, trade and hence foreign exchange.  Activities in this sector are a key element in BELCO mix of services and encompass more than 120 assignments.  For activities related to human food production, we always apply the latest agreed food safety regulations, approaches as Prerequisite Programmes (PRP) and HACCP principles, and manuals used by e.g. WTO, FAO, EU, USA drug administration etc. Designs, plans and management procedures always comply with these international standards and norms.

 

BELCO has provided services to the entire value chain of the food sector from raw- and intermediary material production through to consumer ready products. Our involvement in the food  sector encompasses final product based on input from:

  • Agriculture;
  • Fresh-, brackish and salt water aqua- and mariculture production systems for shellfish, crustaceans, fish and seaweeds;
  • Capture fisheries on rivers and inland water bodies;
  • Near cost artisanal and high sea commercial fishery.

 

For the downstream food processing sector services are based on food safety issues per product line and include plant layout, technical design and specifications, financial and economic analyses, and training in Good Management practices, labour rights, marketing issues and branding. In addition, such services have been provided to storage, transport and logistics systems in the food sector:

  • Beer brewery and yeast plants;
  • Abattoirs, slaughter houses and meat processing facilities;

  • Fish/shellfish processing and storage;
